We have some fun and exciting news coming your way in the coming months.  ”″ is close to being finished and we are exploring the next phase.  What’s next?  Well, you’ll have to stay tuned, because you know we will keep you informed as we move forward.

In the meanwhile, we’ve been putting together our follow up project, which is a documentary titled, THE DAYS AFTER LAST NIGHT.  We are hoping to have a website and facebook fan page up and running by the end of April.  Until then, we just wanted to share this new project with all of you who have supported “1 in 3″.  This weekend we will be headed out to San Diego to attend the 2012 International Conference on Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, and Stalking.  We should be able to get some great interviews and footage at this conference.  We are pleased to have be our follow up project and that we’re able to continue to spread the word in order to stop the violence.

Thanks again for the support.  Check back soon for more info regarding the future of “1 in 3″.

Hello faithful and supportive readers of this blog.  We would like to take the time to promote the “1 in 3″ , some of which you can listen to on our website.  Just hover over the Media tab and you will see at the bottom of that list.  A song you won’t find on our page is “Heavy Heart, Heavy Hands,” which we’ve just learned that this song featured in “″ will be featured on the hit television show One Tree Hill.  The song is written and performed by the talented Sunday Lane.  If you haven’t heard her, then you should check her out.  In addition to “Heavy Heart, Heavy Hands,” Sunday Lane will have another one of her songs, “Reckless One,” that will be featured on the same show.  Thanks for reading and we’ll be posting more news soon!!

Hello there, fine readers and followers of this blog!  We just wanted to take a moment to share with you an article, which if you’re not a member of our Facebook page, then you may not have heard about this great article.  The Norman Transcript ran an article in their entertainment magazine, Norman, Etc. on Friday, December 16th.  So, we are ending the year and beginning a new year with a bang – so to speak.  The reporter felt that it would be a great article to compliment the featured article, which is on the Sullivan Concert held each year to raise money for the Women’s Resource Center and their domestic and sexual violence programs and shelter.  If you’re in Norman and would like to support the Women’s Resource Center and listen to some great Holiday music, then mark your calendars!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND A MERRY NEW YEAR FROM TEAM “″!!!

Well, guess who’s back from the Big Apple?  ”″ that’s who!!  On Friday, November 8th, 2011 had its first screening in NYC.  In all its unpolished sound glory, “″ screened to a crowd of 50 or so people.  There were some laughs, some gasps, some tears, and when it was all said and done more than some people who could relate to the situation Sydell found herself in.  Again, “″ hit home.

One word seemed to resonate after the credits rolled.  Powerful!  However, I don’t think that word only applied to “1 in 3″.  I saw some powerful films at this film festival.  I’ve been to a few film festivals and this is the first where each film played seemed to be more powerful than the film that had screened before it.  There was so much passion – both in front of the camera and behind the camera.  My heart leaps up…

Many thanks to Terra Renee the founder and the director of the African American Women in Cinema Film Festival, for giving women of color a platform in which to display their work.  The festival staff was amazing and the venue charming.  I can’t wait to attend the 15th annual AAWIC film festival for it’s a great place to witness amazing talent and recharge one’s creative battery.    Below you will find a list of a few of the great films that screened in the 14th Annual AAIC Film Festival.  Here’s to another year down and many more to go! This will be the last screening in 2011 for “″.  We would love nothing more than to see your happy, smiling faces at this screening in support of the film.  It is still not completed, but this will be your opportunity to see why we still are working very hard to get through post-sound production.  So, come join us as we bring in 2012 with a bang and a revitalization of the project as it approaches completion, which will bring about all new festival screenings.  We are most certain of that.  Thanks for your continued support and spread the word!

1 in 3 to Screen in the African American Women in Cinema Film Festival!!!

Well, we are just about out of days in September and have 2 more celebratory posts left in us.  To be real to our 10 day shoot, the last post will be posted in October.  We shot nine days in September and had one float/pick-up shot day in October of 2009.  The last three posts have been a great way to recap and recapture the magic that inspired us to go the distance with this project and see it through.  We appreciate all of your support and continued interest.  It is this interest and support that will get this project where it needs to go when it is all said and done.  Now, Will Thompson shares what made him go the distance…

I think I was pretty naive when I signed onto “″ as the DP. I had no idea how much hard work it would be. I had no idea how much fun it would be. I didn’t know about all the great people that I would meet or the things that I would learn.

Domestic violence was something that I never really thought about, but then, that is sort of the point of “1 in 3″. I always assumed that the subject was pretty cut and dry: men shouldn’t act violently and women shouldn’t hang around with guys that do. But after all the discussions that this film spawned, I realized that I knew nothing. The problem is far more complex than I had ever imagined. “1 in 3″ does a great job of showing that complexity. It isn’t preachy or sappy. It just shows the heartbreak, torment, fear, and hope of the women (and men) whose lives have been affected by domestic violence.
It was Lagueria’s writing that brought me into this project. It was the crew’s enthusiasm that got me through production. And it is my belief in the project that keeps me pushing for it now. “1 in 3″ is something special in the quality of film-making, the importance of its message, and the way that it brought a rag-tag crew of young filmmakers together to produce something that is bigger and more amazing than it has any right to be on a nothing budget.

As we wind down September, our members voice what has been for them the past 2 years.  We are finally at a place where we are close to having 1 in 3 in the can.  Soon we will be ready to move forward with the project.  In celebration, Gabe has something to say and we thank you for listening Gabe Sounds off in Celebration!

Well it seems like it has been a full 2 years since we wrapped on “1 in 3.”  I remember thinking it would be impossible to shoot the entire film in the allotted time, and I’m still amazed that we did it.  It’s such a great feeling to know that 2 years later the project still has a life and people are still discovering it.

Having no previous experience with domestic violence I was really shocked by the characters in “1 in 3.”  I remember asking, “is there a single person in this movie who isn’t effected by domestic violence?  It’s kind of a downer, and it seems far fetched.  Most people’s lives are not like this.”  But that is the point:  Domestic violence happens all around us, and the victims are right in front of us. “1 in 3″ is a unique film with an important message. I’m very proud to have been a part of the project from beginning to end.

Time flies when you’re having fun.  Read on as we continue with our very special September blog posts from members of Team .  We hope you’ve enjoyed the journey as much as we have September Birthday Celebration Continues!!

These past two years dealing with the film 1 in 3 have been a series of contradictions.  Time flies and yet stands still: I have grown so much as a filmmaker/actor in the past two years thanks to 1 in 3 that it only seems a blink of time ago; yet the endurance race to get 1 in 3 distributed seems to have dragged on forever.  The film has been a blessing and a curse: learning more and more about the business side of filmmaking has been a blessing, yet my ignorance of the business has slowed us down on certain fronts.  The film dashes my hopes, yet gives me the strength to go on: I had hoped to see a difference in the lives of those affected by domestic violence by now, but every time I see the movie I get a renewed feeling that getting this out there is the RIGHT thing to do.  Seeing it reminds me of what I survived and makes me want to pass the message along: you can get out.  Things are not hopeless.  Other people do care about you and will help you regain your confidence and vitality.  You can break the strangle-hold that your abuser has on you.  There are lots of people like Lagueria who care about those of us that were caught up in the cycle of violence.  They understand how it keeps you off-centered enough that you don’t trust your own instincts.  They aren’t there to judge you, just to help you be the person you were before.  You can teach your sons and daughters to respect each other and treat each other with respect.

A heart-felt thanks to all of our friends and family who have supported us in this arduous process.  Whenever Lagueria speaks at a film festival and recounts the support given to us, I can’t help but tear up.  Every time our partners volunteer their time and money, my heart lightens knowing we are working together to the completion.  So thanks to Lagueria, Gabe, Cassie and Will for making this a journey of a lifetime.

Well, it’s September, which means is turning 2 years old.  Can you believe it?!?!  We can’t!  Well, we can, because it’s been quite the journey.  To celebrate this journey we will be posting a very special blog entry from a different 1 in 3 team member.   We hope you enjoy their stories.  If you have a story you want to share, please leave a comment or send us an email and we will post it.  Happy reading!

If you had told me two years ago that “1 in 3″  would still be in post-production, I would have said, “Malarky!”  But alas, here we are.   And we are here because we want to be.   It is obvious that we believe in this project and we want it to succeed on levels of which we only dreamt.  In the past two years we’ve been working hard to get the funding to fix our sound issues.  After our failed Kickstarter campaign, funding was looking unlikely.  But then, a filmmaking miracle happened and the Redbud Pictures crew made us feel like dreams can come true.  We are now a matter of days* away from having our ADR synced, and our finessed.  I can’t believe it.  Actually, I can.  We worked hard, we had a dream, and most importantly… we had patience.  Two years from now my dream is for “1 in 3″ to be shown in high schools, conferences, shelters, social work courses, and more.  I think we all hope that it can raise awareness to this issue and help people.  And it already has.   Ah, the power of filmmaking.  Here’s to another two!

This September 1 in 3 turns 2!
